Simon Willison joins the team at The Guardian

Very exciting news today. Jemima has the story:

“[Simon] Willison is the latest technical appointment for [The Guardian], which is building up its development team for a range of projects. Joining in early October, Willison will work with both the Guardian’s existing data sources and third-party companies to prepare content for the platform, allowing the external development community to create applications using Guardian content.”

Simon is one of the most creative developers I know. He’s deeply insightful and tremendously curious. And his many impressive accomplishments speak volumes.

“…He most recently worked as a freelance consultant for projects at the BBC, GCap Media, blog firm Automattic and the software developer Mozilla. His work has focused on OpenID, the universal login system, and content management systems.”

Welcome, Simon!

Update: Simon adds via his blog:

“I’ll be joining them full time (well, four days a week) in mid-October as a software architect, collaborating with their development team on some ambitious API projects. The Guardian have access to a lot of interesting data and I can’t wait to get stuck in to it.”
